Winter Session Eight-week classes Jan–Feb, Tue & Thu/10:00–12:00 or 1:30–3:30; Wed/10:00–12:00 or 6:00–8:00; Fri/10:00–12:00; Sat/10:00–12:00 or 1:30–3:30. Special workshops offered on select Wednesdays and Saturdays. Join practicing artists in our studios to play with ideas and materials while developing skills and techniques. All skill levels welcome. TUESDAYS
Still-Life Painting (Beginners) Eight Tue/Jan 8–Feb 26, 2019, 10:00–12:00. Instructor: Susan Gray Bé. Using oil or acrylic, learn the fundamentals of painting, from organizing a palette and blending, color mixing, brushwork, and glazing techniques to the elements and principles of design and composition. A partial supply kit is available for $80. $240, CMA members $210.

Creative Drawing (All Skill Levels) Eight Tue/Jan 8–Feb 26, 2019, 1:30–3:30. Instructor: JoAnn Rencz. With an emphasis on creative thinking, this class helps you practice close observation and attention to detail while exploring drawing techniques and concepts such as value, shading, and line. $240, CMA members $210.

Drawing in the Galleries (All Skill Levels) Eight Wed/Jan 9–Feb 27, 2019, 10:00–12:00. Instructor: Susan Gray Bé. Hone observation and technical skills as you use charcoal, graphite, and conté crayons to sketch artworks in the galleries. $245, CMA members $215; includes model fee for one session.

Workshop Wednesday: Pictorialist Smartphone Photography (All Skill Levels) Nov 14 or 28, 6:00–8:30 p.m. Instructor: Deb Pinter. Lose yourself in the ethereal exhibition Clarence H. White and His World, learn about Pictorialist techniques and themes, and explore how to use apps and other smartphone features to create contemporary images in a time-honored style. Bring your smartphone. Suggested app downloads provided in advance; some apps may have a small fee. All skill levels welcome. $50, CMA members $40.

FRIDAYS
Composition in Oil Eight Fri/Jan 11–Mar 1, 2019, 10:00–12:00. Instructor: Susan Gray Bé. Experiment with line, color, balance, pattern, and contrast to create both still lifes and figurative compositions in this traditional painting course. Advanced painters are encouraged to further develop ideas and techniques and to experiment with paint application. A partial supply kit is available for $80. $240, CMA members $210.

Creative Digital Photography Eight Sat/Jan 12–Mar 2, 2019, 1:30–3:30 Instructor: Ben Hauser. Learn the fundamentals of your camera and image processing techniques to explore the art of photography. From smartphones to DSLRs, all cameras are welcome! $240, CMA members $210.

Tours of Praxis Fiber Workshop Sat/Dec 8 or Jan 19, 2:00-3:00 Director Jessica Pinsky leads a tour of Praxis, Cleveland’s only fiber-based art center, which provides Cleveland Institute of Art students and the community with classes, studio space for artists, a gallery, and more. Visitors will see the dye lab and assorted fiber equipment and enjoy an interactive weaving demonstration. Location: Praxis Fiber Workshop, Waterloo Arts District, 15301 Waterloo Rd, Cleveland, OH 44110. Free; registration requested, not required.

Registration
Register through the ticket center at 216-421-7350. Registration is first-come, first-served. Most classes are limited to 16 participants. If minimum enrollment is not met one week before the first session, the class will be canceled and all enrolled participants will be notified; no further registrations will be accepted to reinstate the class. There is a $15 late fee per order beginning one week before class starts. Supply lists and class syllabi are provided within one week of the first class date unless noted. High schoolers may enroll in adult classes with guardian permission. A limited number of scholarships are available. Contact adultstudios [at] clevelandart.org for more information.
