Letter from Director William M. Griswold

As the world grapples with fallout from the coronavirus pandemic, we at the Cleveland Museum of Art share the concern of our neighbors throughout northeast Ohio for the safety and well-being of our community. In response to these concerns, and in concert with governmental guidelines, I write to announce that the Cleveland Museum of Art will temporarily close to the public until further notice.

All scheduled events during this time will be canceled or postponed, and we will update you as further decisions are made in the coming weeks. All updates will be shared on our website and social media channels.

This was not an easy decision. However, we are as committed to playing our part in containing the transmission of the virus as we are to being a proactive, leading institution in the community. I am grateful to our staff, most of whom will be working from home during this period, for their commitment to our many ongoing projects and our future planning. And I am deeply grateful to each and every one of you—and to our volunteers—for your continued support.

All previously announced cancellations will remain as such. Over time, you will be contacted if you have purchased a ticket for a postponed or canceled event, and we will be happy to refund the price of the ticket or exchange it for a ticket to a future event.

I look forward to welcoming you back to the Cleveland Museum of Art and seeing you at our rescheduled events in the near future. In the meantime, I extend my sincere best wishes to you and your loved ones. We will get through this, together.

Yours sincerely,

William M. Griswold

Director and President
